Emmet (Shorty) Joseph Gilcrest, Jr.

Emmet (Shorty) Joseph Gilcrest, age 87, of Brookfield, died December 31, 2017 at Pershing Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Freedom Baptist Church, Brookfield, with Pastor Kevin Pulliam officiating. Memorials have been suggested to Freedom Baptist Church, Brookfield Emmet (Shorty), son of Emmet and Lillian (Clayton) Gilcrest was born April 21, 1930, in San Mateo, California. In 1958 he married Billy Jean Green who preceded him in death. In 1982 he married Linda L. Pouliot. Emmet was a US Airforce veteran, serving from 1947 until 1968. He took his basic training at Big Springs, Texas and retired from Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico with stops in Korea, Japan, Alaska and Greenland. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; step son, Allan Harris, Milan; step daughter Beth (Matt) Howard, Milan; grandchildren, Rachel VanBeers, Green City; Jessica Hoover, Fort Leonard Wood; Blake and Lucas Howard, Kirksville; Ryan Hollon, Kirksville; his brothers Ron (Carla), AZ; and Ray (Judy), CA; Brother-in-law, Tom (Judi) Pouliot, NV; many nieces, and nephews and his cousin Bobbie Kersten, CA Shorty was a charter member of Freedom Baptist church and an avid golfer and bowler He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles
