James Edward Greenway, age 78 of Monroe City, MO; passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Illinois. James son of James Younger Greenway Jr. and Azalee Horton was born on April 20, 1943 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. James joined the United States Army on July 6, 1961 and served for his county until June 24, 1964. Then James transferred in to the United States Army Reserve and was discharged on June 30, 1967. While in the service he received the Motor Vehicle Drivers badge, Sharpshooter Rife badge, Good Conduct medal, and was awarded a Bronze Star medal. James was a member of the Brookfield VFW Post # 4557 and Brookfield Masonic Lodge #86. He was a past member of the Brookfield American Legion and Freedom Baptist Church. James enjoyed reading history and western books, watching documentary shows, Nascar and Texas A & M. He loved spending time with his dog Maggie and with his grandchildren. James is survived by his three daughters, Jessica (Chance Mayfield) Greenway of Monroe City, MO; Paige York of Columbia, MO; and Michelle (Gerald) Jeffers of Pine Bluff, AR; seven grandchildren, Troy Enochs , Bella Greenway, Misti Weaver, Michael R. (Amber) Smith, Kelley (Kyle) White, Corey (Stacei) Smith, and Ryan Beaty, eight great-grandchildren, Jayna Stone, Ayleigha Stone, Kyra Weaver, Ava Weaver, Riley Smith, Braydon Smith, Kylley White, and Presley Goings, one brother, Mike Metcalf, and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Troy Beaty.
