William James Montgomery, Jr.

William James Montgomery Jr. age 89 of Sumner, died Tuesday April 19, 2016 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mexico. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the South Eagle Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Montgomery and Reverend Monty Montgomery officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in Laclede Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm Friday, April 22, 2016 at Rhodes Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Memorials have been suggested to Sumner United Methodist Church or Sumner American Legion Post #586 and may be left at or sent to the funeral home, 216 Linn Street, Brookfield, Missouri 64628. On-line registry at www.rhodesfh.com William James, son of William James Montgomery Sr. and Violet Rosalee Kaye Montgomery was born on June 23, 1926 in Brookfield. On June 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Stewart in Sumner. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2010. He was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church; Sumner Masonic Lodge; Linn County Community Chorus and was a Farm Bureau Crop Adjuster. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He is survived his children, Grace Ann Goring, Bowling Green, William J. Montgomery III and wife Martha, Sumner, Roselle Heller and husband Chris, Bucklin, Ellen Rae Shiflett and husband Steve, Overland Park; eleven grandchildren, Billy Jack Simmons, James Joseph Simmons, Monty Montgomery and wife Tonia, Rachel Keller and husband Daniel, Amy and husband Steve Stark Jr., Luke Montgomery and wife Marcy, Jennifer Summers and husband Mark, Walter Heller and wife Tiffany, Sarah Reed and Husband Jonathan, Summer Shiflett and Stephanie Shiflett; sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. William was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Wilda Sloan.
