Letha Mae Cisna

Letha Mae Cisna, age 86, of Laclede, MO; passed away Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2026, at Morningside Center in Chillicothe, MO; surrounded by her family and loved ones. Letha was born on February 9, 1940, to Wildred Richard ‘Pete’ Smith and Mary Grace (Wolfe) Smith in Marceline, MO. Letha attended Laclede High School and graduated with the class of 1958 – the final graduating class of Laclede High School. On May 24, 1961, she married the love of her life, Wayne Lee Cisna, at the United Methodist Church in Laclede, MO. Letha was a member of the Laclede United Methodist Church, served as a secretary at the church, worked at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC while Wayne was stationed at the Pentagon. She also worked at United Missouri Bank in Brookfield, was a paraprofessional at the Brookfield School, and served as the City Clerk for Laclede. Her most loved profession was that of homemaker. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, tending to her garden and flower beds, and cooking for the people she loved. Above all, Letha cherished her family. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, Nana, and great-Nana who always put her family first. Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, and she loved attending their ballgames and activities whenever she could. Her family will forever remember her love, kindness, and the many ways she made them feel cared for. Letha is survived by her husband Wayne Lee Cisna of the home in Laclede; four children, Kerri (James) Cowan, Kristi (Nathan) Newlin of Meadville, MO; Kelli (Chuck) Gonzalez,and Tony (Stacey) Cisna of Brookfield, MO; eleven grandchildren, Kailee (Taya) Cowan, Ashley Cowan, Emilie (Cole) Clearman, Jase (Gracie) Cowan, Logan (Caylie) Newlin, Ethan Newlin, Samantha (Drey) Moss, Mallory (Tyler) Burrus, Rylee Cisna, Cooper (Kaley) Cisna, and Carissa (Jake) Winslow; six great-grandchildren, Hanleigh Clearman, Rory Clearman, Nora Newlin, Lowen Burrus, Whit Winslow, and Hayes Winslow; one brother, Larry (Janice) Smith of Laclede; two nieces, one nephew, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Grace Smith and her in-laws, Lee and Clella Cisna. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Letha will be held at 2:00 pm. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Rhodes Funeral Home in Brookfield, MO; with Pastor Ron McPherson officiating. Burial will be in the Laclede Cemetery in Laclede, MO. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 1:00 pm. until the time of the service at 2:00 pm. at the funeral home.
